Typical neutralizer configuration

Configuration of a typical skid-mounted neutralizer (one-way, acid)
  • Treatment tank – 215 gallon high density polyethylene (HDPE) tank includes:
    • Removable cover
    • Inlet connection in vessel side at customer specified location
    • Overflow connection in vessel side at customer specified location
    • Drain connection in vessel side at low level at customer specified location
    • Corrosion resistant level sensors monitor vessel liquid level
    • Temperature switch and control interlock

  • Recirculation equipment includes:
    • Immersible centrifugal pump to circulate waste liquid through the neutralizing loop for sampling, pH sensing, injection of neutralizing liquid and mixing of tank contents
    • Standard pump motor is 2.0 hp 460Vac; other motors are available.
    • Strainer on suction side of pump to protect pump clearances
    • Pressure gauge, isolated and corrosion resistant, on pump discharge
    • Tank mixing manifold to rapidly distribute recirculated liquid in the tank, speeding system neutralization response time

  • Process inlet valve – Air operated valve closes when neutralizing tank is at the required tank level. (A small on-board air compressor is optional, for facilities without an air utility.)

  • Process outlet valve – Air operated valve allows downstream transfer of neutralized liquid when pH is within range AND vessel level is above low level. The valve is installed on the discharge side of the centrifugal pump to allow pumped transfer.

  • Chemical injection subsystem A – Nominal maximum injection rate of 15 gph (larger injection rates are available if needed) with an extremely large turndown ratio. This subsystem injects acid and includes:
    • High efficiency venturi in the treatment loop
    • Direct indicating flowmeter
    • Metering valve to adjust chemical flow
    • Check valve in chemical line
    • Automatic shutoff valve in chemical line
    • Strainer to protect chemical line clearances
    • Chemical line pipework for feeding from the chemical supply drum

  • Chemical injection subsystem B – (Not installed on this one-way treatment system.
In two-way treatment systems, chemical injection subsystem B is installed and includes components similar to those listed above for subsystem A.)

  • Instrumentation and control subsystem includes:
    • Process computer and operator interface
    • In-line, self cleaning pH sensor
    • pH signal conditioner to convert pH signal for use by the process computer
    • Contactor and overload relay for pump motor
    • Alarm lamp and buzzer
    • Alarm interlock output for interface with owner’s alarm system if desired
    • Modem for remote system operation, monitoring and service
    • NEMA 4X electrical enclosure

  • ChemWand® for insertion into the large bung hole of an upright 55 gallon drum. Includes hose, fittings and check valve.

  • Dimensions
    • Overall height: 74″
    • Footprint exclusive of external valves/pipework: 48″x 48″

  • Capability
    • In typical situations, neutralization occurs at 10-15 gallons per minute
    • Skidded systems are available in smaller or larger units as well
